Big B Swingmaster Amplifier ready to go! |
Inspired by the Gibson amplifier circuits of the 1930's, our little Jazz amp is like a cross between an old Gibson EH-125 and a tweed Deluxe. Has a tv front cabinet, Weber 12" 30 watt alnico speaker, Mercury Magnetics output transformer, Sozo Capacitors and Mogami wiring throughout. Tube compliment is 6SJ7, 6SL7, 12AU7, 22 watts with a pair of Tung-SOl 5881 tubes or 12 watts with 6V6 tubes and a 5U4 for the rectifier. The combination of parts gives up a dark "reedy" tone, perfect for archtops with a P-90, Charlie Christian or Johnny Smith type pickup You can really here the wood in your guitar. This one will live here at the shop where you can check it out, we'll be taking orders on these. |

Important announcement! |
After a long and challenging summer with an enormous amount of work, I've decided to to limit the types of projects we take on here. We will no longer be accepting cheap amplifiers as they take too much benchtime and offer little or no rewards financially or otherwise. I don't like to have my customers wait 6 weeks for their amps so to help keep the flow here we will no longer be accepting the following: Peavey, Mesa Boogie, Crate, new Ampeg gear, new Marshall 2000 series and other Guitar Center goodies. I'm not out to insult anybody here but this stuff really is disposable and should be referred to many of the fine authorized service centers available. I would rather focus my energy on getting a good amp to sound great and have happy customers than having Crates come back 3 times, be stressed out and not enjoy myself. I know pro gear is costly but the old saying still rings true: You get what you pay for! We will also not be accepting any more home made or home modified amps. If you are going to get in to a project be prepared to follow through with hours of trouble shooting. I won't do it for you even if you want to pay me. I've lost many hours and perhaps hundreds of dollars on this type of project and will no longer be accepting them. Thanks for understanding, Jef |
NEWS FLASH! |
Sunn Sorado amplifier head. |
1969 Sunn Sorado head, new Dyna power transformer, all new filter caps and load resistors with new Chinese KT-88 tubes. Schumacher output transformer (original), works well for bass, Cello,, just about anything as it has a clean and clear 60 watt output. Price includes $400 overhaul! For an additional fifty bucks we can load it with new Tung Sol 6550, or for another $100 we can load it with new Genelex KT-88 tubes. Call 503-367-5725 for details! |
$499-599 SOLD! |
Big "B" JTM-45 |
This one will be a faithful reproduction of the legendary JTM-45 head complete with Mercury Magnetics "Radio Spares" output transformer and Re-issue Genenlex KT-66 output tubes. Purple tolex for extra Royal classiness. watts Mogami wire throughout and SOzo coupling caps, the works! 7/31/08 Just completed. I'm offering this one at a "used" price as I obtained the output transformer and chassis used. Looks good but faceplate is scratched and chassis has lots of extra holes you can't see. We'll call is reliced lightly. This is "the one". It rules. Used Mullard 5AR4 and Telefunken 12AX7 tubes compliment the ultimate tone. I would like to keep this one for myself but really have no gig to justify it. New these are $1400 from me so take advantage of a little uglier Chassis etc....... This amp sounds better than any of the other "Marshalls" I've heard on the market today. No kidding. I've had the privelege of comparing it to a real 64 pa head and a real 63' lead top (coffin logo). It's so close..... |
$1000 SOLD! |
My scold of the week! |
Do not put beer on top of your amp!!!!! Just finished a nice re-issue Bassman that had a terminator stout poured in to it as it spilled over. The repair cost was over $150 for new output tubes, and 5 out of 6 new sockets. Had to spray an entire can of contact cleaner to clean this up, and had to bill for that can! Avoid costly repairs! |

Hey Jef, I just bought a Fender Deluxe Re-issue that sounds good until I compare it to an older one, then it sounds harsh and flat! Help! |
You've come to the right place my friend, we just finished a job that cost about $250 that really helped. We could go further, but on a budget of $250 here's what we did: Replaced all the signal caps in the signal path with nicer Mallory caps, get's rid of that new Fender boxiness. Next we replaced all of the resistors in the path with real carbon composition for smoother, more rounded vintage tone. We replaced the phase inverter tube with a nice NOS one, the 12ax7 tubes with Sovtek LPS glass and finally got rid of that awful sounding J*nsen C12K and replaced it with an Eminence like Fender used to use. The result? it's not vintage but still sounds way closer to vintage. Far better than before! We could go all the way with replacing the whole board, pots and output transformer if you like, but even on a budget of $250 you'll get a much better sounding amp that inspires you to play. Same applies for all new Fender amps (Deville, re-issue Bassman etc.) Call 503-367-5725 |

Scold of the year! |
NEVER USE WD-40 AS A CONTACT CLEANER! Just had yet another old Fender take many hours of cleaning, replacing components and replacing wire to get Snap capped, Pop dropped and Crackle in shackles! This will cost the customer dearly and could have been avoided. It cost me in time and energy so please, don't ever use this stuff!!!!!!!! |
